A Country Crowd, Already Through the Gate

Cowboys & Country is our western festival on the riverside lawns: a whip-cracking show by Ringers Western, live country music, line dancing, mechanical bull rides, horses and alpacas. Entry is free, so families come for the day and browse while they are here. We hold a run of market sites along the crowd's path, and this is where you apply for one. September's is the fifth festival day this year: we ran 28 March, 9 May, 20 June and 18 July, rested August to let the lawns regrow, and continue on Saturday 19 September.

What brings the crowd

The Day You'd Be Trading Into

People come for the programme and stay for hours. There is music and dancing, there are horses and animals, and the market sites trade alongside the programme all day.

Live Country Music

Bands through the day on the lawn stage, with line dancing between sets.

Ringers Western Whip Cracking

The whip-cracking show draws the whole crowd to one spot, then releases it.

Mechanical Bull Rides

Registration runs all day, with a queue of families waiting their turn.

Horses, Ponies & Alpacas

Pony rides and animal feeding keep children on site for the afternoon.

Jumping Castle

One more reason a family stays past lunch rather than driving home.

Market Sites

Your stall, in front of the crowd the day's programme brings in.

What we look for

Stalls That Suit a Country Day

Visitors arrive in hats and boots and are in the mood for the part. Work that is made, grown or found by the person selling it does best on these lawns.

Western & Country Goods

Hats, boots, belts, buckles and leatherwork, bought on the day they are worn.

Craft & Handmade

Woodwork, pottery, soap and textiles made by the person at the table.

Clothing & Fashion

Clothing and scarves with a story behind them, small labels welcome.

Plants & Garden

Potted plants, cut flowers, seedlings and things for the shed and the yard.

Homewares & Gifts

Country homewares, prints, signage and the gift someone buys on the way out.

Kids & Family Activity

Face painting, games and hands-on stalls that hold a queue of children.

Food and drink on the day are served by the Rivermill Café and our own bar, so market sites are for goods rather than catering. Packaged pantry lines are worth asking about.

Expression of interest

Apply for a Site on 19 September

Share a few details and we'll come back to you about your site. Saturday 19 September is the planned date; weather moved one festival this year, June's, by a week, and if it moves this one, applicants hear from us first. See the event page for the full programme.
